Rolf Heer lost 40 years of hard work in devastating fire

Every new beginning comes from some other beginnings end.

Rolf Heer, the Radium Woodcarver, plans a new beginning after his iconic Home of a Thousand Faces was completely incinerated when a fire erupted on Friday, November 23.

Rolf, who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, has renewed energy and hopes to immediately start work on creating something new. Plans are underway to keep his dream alive.

Community members and friends of Rolf’s are organizing a benefit on Saturday, December 29 at the new Radium Community Centre.

Local talents have banded together to entertain at the event and proceeds will be donated to the Radium Woodcarver for his new plans.

There will be a live and silent auction at the event, which will include some of Rolf’s carvings.

Rolf Heer is a mountain man with an incredible artistic talent of using his chainsaw to create wooden face sculptures. Rolf, as well as his Home of a Thousand Faces in Radium Hot Springs, is well known for an eccentric look and fun wizard-like quirkiness that drew visitors from all over the world.

The home was also featured on the program Weird Homes.

On October 24, Rolf announced that, due to health reasons, he was selling his house, museum and inventory to a like-minded person to continue his business with the love and enthusiasm he had put into it.

On November 23, his 40-year legacy burnt to the ground in less than eight hours due to an unfortunate accidental fire.

The outpour of love, support and well wishes for Rolf has been a buzz over social media, as memorable moments of the legendary Radium Woodcarver stretch across Canada and Internationally.
