Service dog and handler denied access to store
Columbia Valley RCMP June 25 received a report that a shop owner in Radium Hot Springs refused to allow a service dog and its handler into their shop.
The action depicted in the complaint is in contravention of the Guide Dog and Service Dog Act which states that a service dog team can use any place, accommodation, building or conveyance to which the public is invited or has access, explained Cpl. L-P. Gendron-Fafard of Columbia Valley RCMP.
“The person who denied service was offered guidance by the RCMP but refused being educated on the matter. The investigation will now be handled by the BC Service Dog Association and the person who contravened the Act is liable on conviction to a fine up to $3,000,” Cpl. Gendron-Fafard related.
