Work in Sinclair Canyon will cause traffic delays

Parks Canada is alerting the public to the start of watermain rehabilitation work in Sinclair Canyon, with traffic delays coming for Highway 93.

This work will help maintain reliable water service for the Radium Hot Springs pools and Redstreak campground, supporting the long-term sustainability of visitor services in Kootenay National Park.

The second phase of this project is expected to begin as soon as September 8. The first phase was completed in June.

This phased approach ensured essential water services remained functional during the busy summer season while minimizing disruptions to motorists, Parks Canada stated.

Phase is anticipated to last until mid-October.

Work Schedule: Work is expected to occur Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. Some weekend and night work may be required. Please note that construction projects are dynamic by nature and subject to change. Timelines and activities may shift based on weather conditions, site conditions, and construction progress.

Traffic impacts: Single-lane alternating traffic with a reduced speed limit in the work zone is anticipated for up to 24 hours a day. Visitors should be prepared for delays of up to 15 minutes through Sinclair Canyon on Highway 93. Parks Canada will make efforts to minimize delays and traffic impacts. Please check Drive BC for current road conditions before you travel.

Radium Hot Springs pools: Visitors should also be prepared for some minor and short-term disruptions to visiting the Radium Hot Springs while construction is being performed on the watermain. Temporary boil water advisories will be required at times to facilitate the work on the watermain. Before you visit, check online or call for the most up-to-date hours of operation and important notices about the facility.
