Rockies’ Lozeman makes Team of the Week
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) is pleased to announce its Team of the Week for the period ending Nov. 30.
Defence
Johnny Lozeman – Columbia Valley Rockies
The Banff, Alta., native scored three goals in two games and was +3. Lozeman opened the scoring for his team in their 5-2 win against the Creston Valley Thunder Cats. He wasn’t on the ice for a goal against and played an average of 20:44 a game.
Maddox DePasquale – Golden Rockets
The Chicago, Ill., native had a strong weekend helping the Rockets earn two wins. In a 4-2 win over the Creston Valley Thunder Cats, DePasquale collected three assists, including on the winner. He played an average of 25:14 a game and was +3.
Forwards
Spencer Bates – Quesnel River Rush
The Airdrie, Alta., native provided all their offence in a 5-4 overtime loss to the Sicamous Eagles – putting up two goals and two assists. In a 4-1 win over the 100 Mile House Wranglers, he scored the opening goal, then set up the winner with Isaiah Bagri on the power-play. Bates played an average of 22:09 a game and was +3.
Chase Campbell – Sicamous Eagles
The Eagles scored nine goals in their two weekend games – the Sherwood Park, Alta., native scored nearly half of them, while averaging 27:10 of ice time a game. He netted a natural hat-trick to lead the Eagles in a come-from-behind-win against the 100 Mile House Wranglers – a 4-3 shootout victory. In their 5-4 overtime win over the Quesnel River Rush, Campbell scored short-handed, then set up the tying goal to force overtime. He was also +3.
Brenden Stirbu – Kelowna Chiefs
The rookie from Huntington Beach, Calif., was recently the Chiefs’ PuroClean Player to Watch leading into their home game against the Grand Forks Border Bruins. He scored the 1-1 goal in their 3-2 win. In their 4-1 win over the Osoyoos Coyotes, he had two goals and assisted on the winner. The 6-2, 195-pound forward did this while playing an average of 13:13 a game. Stirbu was excellent defensively as he wasn’t on the ice for a goal against and was +5. It’s the second straight Team of the Week selection for Stirbu.
Goalie
Kyan Gray – Quesnel River Rush
The Edmonton native was excellent in goal helping the River Rush earn a pair of wins. His best performance came against the Revelstoke Grizzlies. In a 3-2 shootout victory, Gray saved 56 shots – including all 22 in the third period – and another six in the shootout. In a 4-1 win over the 100 Mile House Wranglers, he stopped 38 of 39 shots. In total, he saved 94 of 97 shots for a 1.44 goals against average and a .969 save percentage.
