Rockies’ Todd named KIJHL’s Rookie of the Week
The Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) has announced Harrison Todd of the Columbia Valley Rockies as its Rookie of the Week for the period ending Nov. 30.
Todd, a defenceman, played an average of 22:27 a game in two games and was +3. Against the Castlegar Rebels, Todd assisted on both Johnny Lozeman power-play goals that gave the Rockies a 2-0 lead before losing 3-2 in overtime.
“We had a strong power-play this weekend, so it was just trusting the guys on the power-play that they’re going to do their job, and also knowing the coach has the trust in me to make some plays,” said Todd.
He credited head coach-general manager Tucker Braund for allowing the defencemen freedom to jump into the play to create offence, while still focusing on defensive play.
Braund says Todd plays solid defensively and is used on special teams, especially the power-play.
“Harrison’s got a good stick defensively and the defensive side of the puck is something he is willing to work on,” said Braund.
“Harrison skates really well and can get into good positioning with that skill. We know he’s an offensive player and he wants to be a guy who can play in all situations, so he really works hard in practice to be that player for us.”
