Rockies’ Velker top forward of the week in KIJHL

Carter Velker (Columbia Valley Rockies), Nathan White (Revelstoke Grizzlies) and Connor Stojan (Beaver Valley Nitehawks) have been selected as the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL) 3 Stars of the Week for the period ending March 2.

Carter Velker – Top Forward

The Calgary native delivered in a big way to help the Rockies take a 2-0 series lead on the Fernie Ghostriders. In Game 1 on Feb. 28, Velker scored the deciding goal in a 5-3 final on the power-play. In Game 2 on March 1, Velker once again struck on the power-play by scoring the 3-2 winner just before time ran out. He had a plus one rating while playing an average of 15:47 a game.

Nathan White – Top Defenceman

The 20-year-old from Calgary collected four assists in two games to help the Grizzlies take a 2-0 series lead on the Merritt Centennials. In Game 1 on Feb. 28, White collected three assists, including on the game winner in a 4-3 final. On March 1, White assisted on the insurance goal in a 3-0 win. White had an even rating while playing an average of 20:17 a game.

Connor Stojan – Top Goalie

The Grande Prairie, Alta., native won Games 1 and 2 against the Nelson Leafs for the Nitehawks. He saved 62 of 64 shots for a 1.00 goals against average and a .969 save percentage. In Game 1, Stojan had a 26-save shutout in a 3-0 win on Feb.28. Then on March 1, Stojan stopped 36 of 38 shots in a 3-2 win.
