Ross MacDonald’s legacy honoured with Memorial Fund

Since its founding in 1997, the Wings over the Rockies Festival has worked to inspire action and awareness for birds, wildlife, and their habitats through education, research, and community collaboration. We are proud to carry that mission forward by creating the Ross MacDonald Memorial Legacy Fund.

This fund is named in honour of Ross MacDonald, a beloved conservationist, Parks Canada leader, dedicated volunteer, and long-time Wings supporter who passed away in 2023.

Ross was not only a Festival President but its biggest champion, with an infectious enthusiasm and a heart deeply rooted in the Columbia Valley.

This special fund, administered by the @columbiavalleycommunityfdtn, will provide ongoing support for local projects focused on:

  • Environmental education;
  • Habitat restoration;
  • Species-at-risk protection;
  • Conservation efforts that protect and enhance ecological conditions.

Ross was never more alive than behind a camera, capturing the beauty of nature he worked so hard to protect. His legacy now lives on in this fund, which supports the very causes he loved most.

From all of us at Wings, thank you to our community of volunteers, supporters, and Ross’s family for helping us make this dream a reality.

May those who benefit from this fund carry forward Ross’s spirit of resilience, joy, and unwavering dedication to nature.
