Stove top fire quickly extinguished in Windermere

Members of the Windermere Fire Department (WFD) responded to a stove top fire in Windermere just before noon today.

“We were dispatched to the fire which was noticed and called in by neighbours,” said Columbia Valley Rural Fire & Rescue Service Chief Drew Sinclair. “We would like to thank the neighbours for their alertness and quick action in calling 911.”

The initial quick response of one apparatus and one command vehicle with six members was bolstered by the RDEK firefighter work experience program. The fire and damage were contained to the immediate stove top area. The full response included two apparatus, two command vehicles, and 13 WFD members attending the scene.

“With the current power outages, we would also like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to ensure their electric appliances and lights are off to avoid unexpected circumstances when electrical service resumes,” added Sinclair.

Up-to-date information on restoration times from BC Hydro can be found at  bchydro.com/outages.
