Tree strike kills skier at Panorama

At 1:12 p.m. on March 12 there was a fatality accident involving a 22-year-old male skiing at Panorama Mountain Resort.

The skier was on a beginner trail named Out Rider, and by all accounts he struck a tree on the side of the run. Ski Patrol arrived on the scene at 1:14 p.m. and immediately initiated emergency care. At 1:15 p.m. a helicopter airlift to Invermere & District Hospital was requested but unfortunately the man passed away as a result of his injuries, Panorama reported in a media release.

Conditions on the mountain were sunny with no new snow overnight. Visibility was excellent and the snow surface on the trail was soft and groomed. The skier was wearing a helmet.

“Our hearts go out to the family. This is a tragic accident and we are doing everything we can to assist family members during this very difficult time. Our community is deeply saddened by this event and I want to thank the entire response team for their speed, emergency care and professionalism,” said of Panorama Mountain Resort CEO and President Steve Paccagnan.
