Voltage conversion work to cause outages in Area F
BC Hydro is currently undertaking voltage conversion for all distribution feeders in the Kootenay area due to increased load and to facilitate the removal of polychlorinated biphenyl (PCBs) from existing infrastructure.
As part of this work, BC Hydro will be making changes to the Fairmont Substation, located adjacent to Highway 93/ 95 off Fairmont Station Road.
This project is critical to maintain the safety and reliability of the distribution system, and to remove all PCB equipment from the substation by December 2025 as required by federal regulations.
Planned outages are required to complete the work outside of the substation safely.
