Windermere votes yes in water referendums
Voters in the Windermere area have voted yes on two referendum questions to improving water service.
Voters Oct. 28, and in two advance polls, cast 117 yes votes compared to 34 no votes to upgrade Windermere water by purchasing the Windermere Water treatment through the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) borrowing up to $7,010,000, amortized over a maximum of 25 years, to purchase Windermere Water and Sewer Company’s (WWSC) drinking water service assets, to upgrade the Windermere water distribution system, and increase the maximum annual requisition for the service to $510,000 to pay for the debt costs associated with the borrowing.
Parr Utilities Ltd. is the subsidiary company that currently owns and operates the water treatment plant and related water distribution systems.
Additionally, a total of 162 voters said yes to the establishment of an East Side Lake Windermere Water Service area, with 36 voting no in preliminary results of the referendum released by the RDEK last night.
