14th Avenue South project to begin September 12

Residents living in or travelling around Cranbrook’s  Southview area and regularly use 14th Avenue South will see traffic disruptions beginning on Monday, September 12 lasting approximately six weeks.

The City of Cranbrook is scheduled to begin a significant roadwork project on 14th Avenue South between 10th Street South and 12A Street South.

On August 15, City Council approved reallocating nearly $800,000 from accumulated surplus to the 2011 Road Program to complete the work.

“Drainage improvements, road reconstruction, creation of a multi-use path and installation of streetlights, curbs, gutters and sidewalks are each key components to this project,” said mayor Scott Manjak. “This work is necessary for this area and I am hopeful that the long term benefits will greatly outweigh the short term disruption to residents in that area.”

Residents are encouraged to use 16th Avenue South as an alternate route; however the city understands that this may not be a feasible option for everyone.

The city encourages everyone to use care and caution using whichever alternate route you choose for the duration of the project.

“We certainly appreciate the continued support and cooperation of the public as we continue towards the completion of our 2011 road program,” said Manjak. “Thank you for your patience and understanding.”
