2016 Road Program work to begin next week

Three complete roadway rebuilds will make up a significant part of the City of Cranbrook’s 2016 Capital Roads program, which will cause some full street closures beginning next week.

The roads scheduled for reconstruction include: 11th Avenue South from 3rd Street South to 11th Street South; 4th Street South from 11th Avenue South to 14th Avenue South; 6th Street South from 11th Avenue South to 14th Street South will also be done, but work won’t begin there until later in the summer.

All of these roadways will have their deep utilities like water, sewer and storm sewer replaced, along with sidewalk improvements and paving which means they will be completely closed to vehicle and transit travel for the duration of the project.

All of those properties being directly affected by this road construction work including any disruption of utilities will be receiving written notification from the city’s contractor in a timely manner. Every effort will be made to minimize any disruptions.

City staff is also working closely with BC Transit to minimize the impact these road closures will have on transit schedules and stops. City staff will be adding signage along the #7 route to notify transit users.

It is very important for drivers and pedestrians to please watch for and respect all traffic signs and directions for the duration of the work. It is crucial to obey this signage for your own safety and for the safety of city and contractor staff.

The City of Cranbrook apologizes for any inconvenience this work may cause. We appreciate the patience and understanding of the public and nearby residents as this important work moves ahead.
