City of Cranbrook council provided its pre-approval of the 2023 Capital Works budget Monday night and directed staff to proceed with the 2023 program as submitted by administration.

The pre-approval will allow staff to tender and award projects earlier in the season, which provides opportunities for more advantageous pricing and scheduling – an important focus due to the pressures of inflation, an Engineering and Development Services report explained.

The overall 2023 program budget is proposed to be $7,861,596, including approximate carry forward funds.

The 2023 Capital Works Program will primarily consist of the following projects:

• 4th Street N Phase 2 – estimated $3.9 million;
• Annual Paving Program – estimated $1-1.5 million;
• Wastewater Lagoons and Trunk main Upgrade – carry forward including grant and city funds from IPD0007 – Sanitary Sewer;
• 12th Avenue S, 2nd to 3rd Street S – estimated $1.2 million (budget dependent).
