3 facts you need to know
…about B.C.’s proposed ORV legislation
By Kootenay East MLA Bill Bennett
1. The Off Road Vehicle Act will replace 40-year-old Motor Vehicle (All Terrain Act). Owners of quads, snowmobiles and off-road bikes will register their ORV and receive a license plate or numbered decal. BC Snowmobile Federation, ATV BC and many other provincial organizations have been consulted and support this.
2. B.C. is a dumping ground for stolen ORVs in Canada; COs and law-abiding riders can’t identify those few culprits riding in alpine, riparian, grasslands and closed areas; B.C. is the only province without ORV management; provides support and legitimacy to this form of motorized recreation.
3. Registration will cost less than $50 and will be one-time-only except when an ORV is transferred to a new owner. Fee will only be enough to cover costs of registration. MLA Bennett owns a quad and a snowmobile and strongly supports responsible motorized recreation. Details at https://www.leg.bc.ca/40th2nd/1st_read/gov13-1.htm
