About distracted driving penalties

1. Distracted driving caused 66 deaths in B.C. last year and 630 serious injuries. The public told government they wanted more severe penalties and we listened.

2. New penalties will include a minimum penalty of $543, which includes the ICBC Penalty Point Premium of $175 for four points.

3. Offenders repeating the offence within 12 months of a previous infraction will pay $888 in penalties; additional infractions will raise the penalty further. Driver records for repeat offenders are automatically subject to a review.
