A triple headed weekend for women in sports

The last weekend in February was celebrated at the Cranbrook Curling Centre with the Ladies’ League Bonspiel.

The celebration included not only Canada’s Curling Day Feb 25, but our very own National Women’s championship finals, the renowned Scotties. So, on or off the ice there was plenty of entertainment to watch.

We had the good fortune to have 16 ladies’ teams participate. Teams from out of town were representing the communities of Castlegar, Kimberley and Creston.

Great support was received by ladies curling in the club’s other leagues. It was delightful to see such participation after a two- year hiatus from COVID – 19.

Prize money of over $2,000 was handed out to the winners of every game and to the first and second place winners in the A,B,C and D events.

But the food said it all!  Our wonderful chef Patrick Sinclair provided a feast with such delicacies as a broccoli, cranberry and almond salad to apple and Dijon mustard- based chicken thighs. The revues were rated very high!

Entertainment for the banquet evening was provided by Karen Tripp. As many of the curlers tried their hand or should I say feet in keeping up with Karen’s line dancing calls! If your feet didn’t cooperate you could take your turn in the Cool Shots tournament.

Winners were able to achieve a gold, silver or bronze placement and get financial rewards too.

Our ladies’ league worked hard to provide a welcoming friendly atmosphere for all participants and we will be rewarded as the out of town teams promised to send teams again next year!
