After the storm

Depending on whom you talk to, Cranbrook and area received between 50 and 80 centimetres of snow between Friday, Feb. 3 and Monday, Feb. 6.

It was easily the largest prolonged dumping of snow in more than 20 years in the region.

The storm closed schools throughout the region, halted transit, reduced productivity everywhere from employees not being able to get to work, or working reduced hours and played havoc on the highways, with Highway 3 being closed in two places in the Elk Valley.

The Great Storm of 2017 is still being cleared away from all regional roads and sidewalks, as well as from rooftops, some holding four to five feet of snow in some areas.

The following is a brief look at Cranbrook at mid-afternoon on Feb. 7, the day after the storm.
