An evening of mirth and nostalgia at Key City Theatre

The Celtic Tenors inspired a captive audience of over 480 guests during their live performance at Key City Theatre in Cranbrook Tuesday night (March 29).
To commemorate the second anniversary of COVID-19 lockdowns (Mar. 29, 2020), Key City staff, dignitaries, and Rotarians celebrated the raising of over $75,000 in funds for new curtains for the theatre.
“I’m so happy to be here tonight and to be opening these curtains for the first time, and we can actually use the theatre and be civil once again. It’s been two years,” said Key City Board President Landon Elliott.
Elliot thanked community groups, volunteers, and various organizations that donated to the theatre, including Western Financial Group, Rotary Club of Cranbrook Noon Group, Rick and Marg Jensen Family Foundation, Sunrise Rotary, and the Columbia Kootenay Cultural Alliance.
Supporting the arts was emphasized in heartfelt speeches and appearances by donors and volunteers who gave a bow to start the festive, ethereal, and eclectic night of uplifting and feel-good entertainment.
“Let’s open the curtains and let the evening begin,” said Elliott.
The theatre was flush with attendees, maskless and enjoying a rare evening out following the recent lifting of COVID-19 restrictions and an even rarer public appearance of the widely celebrated and world-renowned trio of Irish tenors.
Goodwill was high as many gazed in awe and wonder at the spectacle of being together again to enjoy stellar musicians back in their element.
Resounding applause accompanied the entirety of the Tenors’ performance and a collective acknowledgment from the audience for their appreciation of the special evening as a welcomed reprieve from the prolonged absence of world-class live music.
The Celtic Tenors mirrored their charismatic reputation as the most successful classical crossover act to hail from Ireland.
With a series of winning solo and combined performances laced with wit, comedy, and a classical flare mixed with the contemporary that inspired nostalgia for a grand opera house or an intimate pub performance, the Tenors undoubtedly left a mark on Cranbrook, giving guests an evening to remember.
