Arrest made after truck driven through fence

Shortly after 8 a.m. on January 28, Cranbrook RCMP received a report of mischief that had occurred earlier in the morning at Cranbrook Toyota on 22nd St N.

Surveillance video provided to police showed an extended cab pick up truck drive through the secure fence causing extensive damage. The business subsequently reported the theft of upwards of 20 vehicle batteries.

Later in the morning, a Cranbrook RCMP member was able to obtain the license plate of a possible suspect vehicle that quickly disappeared into traffic. The officer shared that information regionally and, with public assistance via social media, a suspect was arrested by Kimberley RCMP Detachment members shortly thereafter.

Incidental to the arrest, a significantly higher number of batteries than identified as stolen from Cranbrook Toyota were found in the suspect’s possession, indicating unreported thefts from other businesses in the area.

The suspect has been released from police custody and will be appearing in Court March 31.

Cranbrook RCMP request local businesses check their inventory to see if they too have been subject to theft.

Anyone with any information about related incidents who has yet to speak with police is encouraged to call Cranbrook RCMP at (250) 489-3471.
