Arrest made in residential arson case
Cranbrook RCMP has arrested a local man for allegedly setting fire to a residence this past Saturday.
RCMP officers were called to a residence in the 700 block of Innes Avenue early Saturday morning. Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services (CFES) advised police about a house fire and they believed someone might still be inside.
On attendance one of the occupants of the house was attempting to use a garden hose to extinguish the flames. CFES was able to put out the fire and kept the damage contained to the front of the home. No other structures were damaged.
Cranbrook RCMP, along with the General Investigation Section, were able to quickly identify the suspect and he was arrested without incident.
A 25-year-old Cranbrook resident is currently charged with arson and will appear before the courts at a later date. This was not a random act of arson and the victim was targeted, police reported.
“The Cranbrook RCMP is thankful that no one was injured in this intentionally set fire. The quick response of the Fire Department ensured that the damage was kept to a minimum,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron.
