Call volumes consistent for CFES in summer
Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services (CFES) responded to 633 calls for service during the third quarter of 2025, marking an 11% increase compared to the spring season. Call volumes remained consistent with expectations for the busy summer months.
In a report to City of Cranbrook council Monday night, CFES noted that the number of fire rescue calls (30%) to pre-hospital care calls (70%) continues to follow established trends.
Call activity remained evenly distributed across the community, with higher concentrations in the downtown core and along the highway corridor.
In terms of fire-related activity, crews responded to six structure fires, 75 outdoor or miscellaneous fires, and 61 fire alarm activations. Rescue services were also required in 46 incidents, bringing the total number of fire and rescue-related responses to 188 for the quarter.
Pre-hospital care calls accounted for 445 incidents, covering 30 different types of medical emergencies. The most common were falls and back injuries (54), followed by overdose/poisoning/ingestion (50), chest pain (45), breathing problems (44), convulsions or seizures (35), and sick persons (34).
“Our department is relieved that summer did not bring with it an overwhelming demand for wildfire response services. As a community, we experienced an expected rise in call numbers, associated with travel and the general busy activity of the summer season.

“What we are thankful for, is that our region did not see drastically increased wildfire issues, and thus our resources were not overwhelmed,” said Scott Driver, Fire Chief for the City of Cranbrook.
“We’re thankful that our region did not see an increased wildfire threat this summer due to favourable weather conditions. It was nice to share the summer with our community and not have the threat of wildfire hovering over us or the smoke from wildfire. I am thankful for the team that we have in the region, and even thankful that we did not have to lean on that team quite so hard this summer.”
Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services remains committed to providing timely, professional emergency response and ensuring the ongoing safety and well-being of residents and visitors throughout the community.
