Celebrating those who provide comfort and care for seniors
Cranbrook Better at Home and the East Kootenay Senior Caregiver’s Network are celebrating the countless people in our community who provide comfort and care for seniors.

BC Family Caregiver Week (FCW) is a time to recognize and thank the more than one million family caregivers across the province who devote time and energy to providing care for an adult family member or friend. Thank you for all that you do!
The provincial celebration also provides us with an opportunity to support and educate both family caregivers and the general public on issues of concern for family caregivers in B.C.
During the week, take time to recognize and acknowledge the work you do as a family caregiver or take time to thank the people in your life who are family caregivers.
You are invited to join us for our first-ever free Webinar Socials!
The Family Caregivers’ Network is presenting two free webinars for family caregivers during Family Caregiver Week. You can view these webinars at home on your own computer, or join local service providers in downtown Cranbrook for our first ever Big-Screen Caregiver Webinar Social! We hope you will join us!
Event #1: Common Caregiver Misconceptions Revealed; Facilitated by: Allison Reeves, Registered Clinical Counsellor. Date: Tuesday, May 6; Time: 7 – 9:30 p.m. (webinar runs 7:30-9 p.m. MDT)
“I am the only one that can do this”
“If you aren’t willing to help, you don’t care”
“Their needs and wants are more important than mine”
“No one else understands my situation!”
Join us in revealing and debunking some of these commonly held misconceptions related to family caregiving. We will explore how insidious these beliefs are, the ways they may be impacting your caregiving and how to gracefully extricate yourself from their grasp. This webinar will be useful for both ‘newbie’ and ‘seasoned’ family caregivers.
Event #2: Maintaining Balance in Your Life While Caregiving
Facilitated by: Barb Small, Program Development Coordinator, Family Caregivers’ Network Society. Date: Thursday, May 8; Time: 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. (webinar runs 2–3 p.m. MDT)
It is important for family caregivers to find a way to balance the demands of caring for another person and taking care of their own physical, mental and emotional heath. It is difficult to predict when caregiving might become part of your life and when the time comes the additional responsibilities often get squeezed into an already busy life. Many caregivers take on this new role without letting go of anything else and end up exhausted and burnt out. In this webinar we will explore strategies for managing your time, identifying what drains your energy and what energizes you and how to restore balance in your life while caregiving.
Location for both events: Community Connections Society, 125 – 10th Ave S, Cranbrook (next to Associate Medical Clinic) – (or on your home computer).
Registration: To join us in person, call Cranbrook Better at Home at 250-426-2943, email [email protected] or message us on Facebook ‘Cranbrook Better at Home.’ We’ll take care of the rest…including refreshments!
