Chamber urges city to approve patios swiftly

Letter to the Editor

Dear Mayor Pratt and council: At the May 11 board meeting of the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce the following resolution was passed unanimously;

That the Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce send a letter to the Mayor and Council of the City of Cranbrook requesting swift passage and implementation of transparent and functional bylaws permitting, and encouraging, temporary seasonal patios in select portions of the City of Cranbrook.

In discussion, the board was of the opinion that seasonal patios would greatly enhance efforts to populate and vitalize the retail sections of our community.

The board was also hopeful that the bylaw would be structured as such to actually encourage and promote the installation of temporary patios versus the contrast of a burdensome and heavy handed system that was discouraging and more than likely not to be utilized.

Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions or require further detail, please do not hesitate to contact me.

David D. Hull, Executive Director,

Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce
