Charge laid in Cranbrook poppy donation thefts

In early November 2025, Cranbrook RCMP launched an investigation into a string of thefts involving the Royal Canadian Legion’s poppy donation boxes.

Thanks to strong business and community support investigators compiled CCTV and witness statements from multiple local businesses and the suspect was identified. The suspect later turned themselves in to police.

On January 29, 35-year-old Angela Grace Purdy was charged with six counts of Theft Under $5,000.

“Police thank the community for their vigilance and support throughout the investigation, which has been instrumental in advancing the matter to the courts,” stated S/Sgt. Barry Graham, Cranbrook RCMP Detachment commander.
