Choose Cranbrook wins marketing excellence awards

The City of Cranbrook’s economic development program, Choose Cranbrook, has earned national recognition with the 2025 Economic Developers Association of Canada (EDAC) Marketing Award for Best Website—marking a rare and meaningful double win with top honours at both the provincial and national levels.

“Winning the national EDAC Award for Best Website and the British Columbia Economic Development Association (BCEDA) Award for Marketing Innovation earlier this year was an incredible honour for Cranbrook,” said Darren Brewer, Economic Development Officer for the City of Cranbrook.

“These awards recognize the strength of our vision and the authenticity of the story we’re telling through Choose Cranbrook. What’s most rewarding is that this story keeps growing—thanks to our community, especially our residents, our dedicated Engineering and Development team, and the collaboration and support across all city departments. These achievements belong to all of us.”

The EDAC praised the site for its “engaging and professional presentation,” while BCEDA recognized it as “A true example of what it takes to lead, innovate, and make a lasting impact in Economic Development.

Your dedication and results-driven approach inspire others across British Columbia and beyond and truly shows it can be done,” said Dale Wheeldon, President and CEO of the BCEDA.

“Our Economic Development Officer, Darren Brewer’s collaborative, problem-solving approach to economic development raises the bar for the city’s outlook towards business and development,” said Mayor Wayne Price. “This award is very telling of Darren’s commitment and the talents of our staff and our many local businesses and supporters who made this possible.”

Cranbrook’s award-winning campaign stood out for its strong focus on attracting investment and talent. It highlighted real development opportunities through engaging videos created by local artists and produced by a Cranbrook-based marketing agency.

The campaign offered a rich digital experience with a Newcomer’s Guide, a meaningful spotlight on Ktunaxa homelands, and a data portal providing clear insights for investors and residents. A key feature was the Make it in Cranbrook series, highlighting local success stories and entrepreneurial spirit. Together, these elements reflect an authentic, community-driven approach to economic development.
