Choose Cranbrook wins marketing innovation award
Cranbrook’s ongoing work on ‘Choose Cranbrook’, a purpose-built website for economic development in the city, won the 2025 Marketing Innovation Award from the BC Economic Development Association (BCEDA) at this year’s annual conference in Penticton.
‘Choose Cranbrook’, which sets the standard for showcasing community assets and opportunities, stands out for being big, beautiful and clear in its message, and for using strong visuals and video storytelling to engage investors, support newcomers and highlight regional partnerships.
An important focus of the website highlights Cranbrook’s strong partnership with the ʔaq’am community and the Ktunaxa Nation. It features Ktunaxa language and culture throughout. One key project is the Ktunaxa Homelands Interactive Map, created with Cranbrook Tourism and other partners.
This map helps people learn about the traditional lands in the region. Other important features also includes a Newcomers Guide to help new residents and a Data Portal using public and paid data to highlight Cranbrook’s economic strengths.
“This award reflects the collaboration and local talent that continue to drive our economic development efforts,” said Darren Brewer, Economic Development Officer for the City of Cranbrook.
“I want to thank GENEX Marketing, who manage the site; Lukas Nemeth Films, who created the video content; Cranbrook Tourism, who led the Ktunaxa Homelands project and Sasha Bogdanovic from CityViz who run our Data Portal. This was a true team effort from start to finish.”
Cranbrook’s success at the BCEDA conference did not stop there. Gregg Berg of Kootenay Employment Services received the Community Resilience Award for the Rural Economic Development program, which helped 23 businesses in the region.
“Bringing home two of the 10 provincial awards is something our entire community can be proud of,” said Mayor Wayne Price. “It’s recognition of the hard work happening across Cranbrook to build a stronger, more resilient economy locally.”
