City adding used plow truck to fleet
City of Cranbrook council last night voted unanimously to add $47,000 to the 2017 budget to purchase a used plow truck.
The funds will be transferred from the city’s General Fund Recapitalization Reserve.
‘Currently the city runs four plow/spreader trucks; three of which are 1993-1997 model years. As these are used to salt roads, corrosion shortens the useful life. Currently, the city is awaiting delivery of one new plow truck in early March and has a second multiuse plow truck in the 2017 budget. While looking for rental options for the recent snow event the city located a 2005 with low kilometres and low hours,” a Public Works and Finance and Computer Services report to council states.
“Replacement cost on a similar unit is $190,000-$210,000. Purchasing this unit would dramatically improve reliability of the plow fleet. This unit can also be converted to a dump truck,” the city report said, adding a staff assessment of the truck’s condition as excellent.
“This purchase would allow increased capacity and added level of service in activities such as snow plowing, road maintenance and other purposes,” the report said.
