City seeks way for provision of daycare spaces
The City of Cranbrook plans to issue confidential expressions of interest for city land or facility space support to provide daycare services in Cranbrook and will send a letter to the trustees of School District No. 5, following direction of council September 11.
At the Sept. 6, Committee-of-the-Whole council meeting, councillors determined a course of action to first send a letter to the School District No. 5 Board to determine if SD5 was taking any action toward increasing childcare spaces in Cranbrook, and simultaneously, issue a call for expressions of interest (EOI).
Whereby interested childcare providers could confidentially propose to council the purchase or lease of a portion of city land, irrespective of current use, or within an existing city facility such as the Senior Centre, Western Financial Place (pictured) property, or other building where possible partnerships or synergies could occur, that council could consider confidentially to gauge interest and capability of the proposals and potential providers in Cranbrook.
The EOI would be basic at this early stage to simply have interest, location and capability to utilize grant funds available to be successful in the construction and operation of new childcare spaces in Cranbrook. Council could then determine if city land or facilities could be contributed for this purpose.
Once council has a response from SD5 on its future intentions, and the confidential expressions of interest proposals from potential childcare providers, council can then make decisions on next steps.
