Community Forest fuel reduction project starting in 2025

The Provincial Wildfire Risk Reduction Program will soon start a hand treatment fuel reduction project in the Cranbrook Community Forest. This work will begin in January of 2025 and continue into May.

This project is part of a multi-year project within the Community Forest creating a landscape-level fuel break.

Crews will be working in and around the College Way Recreation Trail starting as early as January and working into May of 2025.

It is asked of the public to please respect the crew’s signage and active work areas.

Crews will remove accumulations of surface fuels and widen the spacing between the trees by removing smaller stems and danger trees. This material will be piled in piles no larger than two metres tall and three metres wide, in locations that will not add an increased fire risk.

These piles will be burnt in compliance with the Ministry of Environment Open Smoke Control Regulations when conditions permit.

As this is not a Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) project, if you have questions related to this work, please contact [email protected].
