Concerned about unsafe traffic pattern

Letter to the Editor

With no avail, I have been trying to get a response from City of Cranbrook council following a letter written earlier this year.

(The letter) To All Council Members,

“I wrote you all an email on November 27, 2025 regarding the unsafe traffic pattern on 14th Avenue S in Cranbrook, between Baker Street and 4th Street N. I have not received a response from any of the city representatives on this matter. If you have all forgotten, you are elected officials and are employed by the people of Cranbrook.

“Your lack of caring is very apparent in the community. And because I have waited patiently for nearly three weeks for a response. I will be forwarding both this email. and my previous email to the media. Perhaps that will evoke a response from the council.”

I feel that Cranbrook citizens’ safety in this matter is being taken for granted. Not only has the City of Cranbrook designed a dangerous stretch of road. They refuse to take any accountability. For one, the design does not meet B.C. Traffic Safety Code for bicycle lanes. And not only the fact the road width design on the south bound lane is insufficient to pass parked cars on the shoulder when there is any kind of event at the Key City Theatre. This in turn causes traffic to have to cross into the oncoming lane. I have attached the two emails to the city council for all to read.

So in closing, if the city council will not address me by email, perhaps they will after reading this in the papers.

Trevor Phillips,

Cranbrook
