Cookie candy
By Kyla Cornish
I didn’t grow up with lots of family get-togethers. As a kid in a town where everyone was related to everyone I often felt like an outsider.
When I was a kid there was always one family that made me feel like everything was all right in the world. I imagine they never knew how important they were to me.
I always looked for them at Christmas concerts, baseball games and hated when they missed a rare Sunday at church. I loved hearing them laugh. I loved being around their entire family. It’s not like I sat with them or ran to them for a hug. That just didn’t happen when I was a kid like it does today for my kids. To me, Ron and Vicki were the biggest influences in my life after my parents.
I am smiling as I write this. I am fully aware that this is my memory and that their entire family might be sitting around wondering what the hell this crazy woman is saying about them on the Internet. But, I still thank you.
Cookie Candy
1 cup brown sugar
Melt together and add:
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups oatmeal
Pat on buttered cookie sheet. It won’t fill your entire cookie sheet.
Bake at 325 for 12 to 18 minutes until golden brown. Cut into large squares.
P.S. Watch it. I have ruined this recipe many times.
