COTR offering Gasfitter Class B Level 2 program

Beginning January 2026, College of the Rockies (COTR) will expand its trades training with the introduction of the Gasfitter Class B Level 2 program, bringing this specialized training to the Kootenay region and supporting a trade that continues to show steady employment needs across the province.

“In January 2025, Gasfitter – Class B became a Red Seal trade in B.C. This means individuals entering the field will require both a Certificate of Qualification with a Red Seal endorsement from SkilledTradesBC and a Certificate of Qualification from Technical Safety BC,” said Ranjan Bhattacharya, Dean, Trades and Technology.

“Our program provides the 10 weeks of technical training required for students to be eligible to write the Technical Safety BC Certificate of Qualification exam.”

Gasfitters – Class B design, install, repair, and maintain propane and natural gas systems in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. The trade is well suited for individuals with strong math skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a commitment to safety and precision.

Students who have completed provincial Plumber Apprenticeship program at the college or elsewhere will be given credit for 1,500 of the required 3,000 workplace hours, as well as Level 1 of the Gasfitter Class B technical training.

Learners who have already completed Gasfitter Class B Level 1 are also eligible to begin the Level 2 program in January.

With potential for steady employment across residential, commercial, and industrial sectors and additional flexibility when combined with plumbing or HVAC training, Gasfitter Class B offers an excellent career path for tradespeople looking to expand their skills.

Applications for the Gasfitter Class B Level 2 program are now open. Learn more at cotr.bc.ca/gasfitter
