Council approves funds to subdivide Baker Park

City of Cranbrook council July 11 authorized funding up to $30,000 to facilitate subdivision of Baker Park.
The purpose of the subdivision is to create four separate parcels for the former RV campground portion, senior centre, Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) station, remaining and park lands and further, that the park portion of the lands be dedicated on the plan of subdivision.
A recommended consideration for the subdivision would be to formally dedicate the park portion as “park” on the survey plan, which would provide legal status by a plan of subdivision which comes with additional statutory or other restrictions on how parks may be used or sold, outlines a report to council by Rob Veg of Engineering and Development Services.
“This could help ensure the city’s long-term commitment to the preservation of the park potion of the lands,” Veg reported.
In consideration of future land use and infrastructure planning for the Baker Park lands, an option for council is to authorize city staff to undertake a subdivision process to facilitate creation of new, separately titled parcels for the former RV campground lands, the seniors centre, PRV station, and the remaining park lands.
“By creating separate parcels for each use contained within the larger parent parcel, the subdivision would allow the city to potentially consider future land use and infrastructure options for the former RV campground and/or seniors centre parcels separate from the remaining park and PRV station,” the city report said.
