Council approves permits for commercial buildings

City of Cranbrook council last night approved development permits for two commercial buildings at 1833 Cranbrook Street North, with a Popeye’s Chicken outlet one of the planned tenants.

The city received combined Development Variance Permit and Development Permit applications from Dionne Delesalle for 1341692 BC Ltd. seeking approval for both permits to enable construction of two commercial buildings on property located at 1833 Cranbrook Street North.

The applicant requested a variance to the city’s Zoning Bylaw requirements for an interior side yard.

Two one-story commercial buildings are proposed to be constructed on site, situated along the southwest side of the property with a combined floor area of approximately 6,400 sq. ft.

One building will be a drive thru Popeye’s Chicken chain restaurant with inside seating for 40 people, a city Engineering and Development Services department report noted.

The second building (4,001 sq. ft.) is intended as four independent retail spaces.

Notice of the variance was mailed to adjacent owners/occupants on February 17, and one call has been received seeking general information regarding the project.
