Council backs resolution for more industrial area street lighting

City of Cranbrook Councillor Wesly Graham submitted a motion Monday, May 30 requesting the addition of additional street lighting in the industrial area of the city.
In the administration update provided to council May 9, city staff provided a review of the industrial roads F, F1, F2 and G, which shows that the city could potentially add up to 20 lights on BC Hydro poles. Click here to read that full staff report.
Monthly costs for a BC Hydro light is $23.74 for a bright one and $18.76 for a less bright one. Costs of install have historically ranged from $0 to $800 depending on what BC Hydro will require for installation, a city report outlined.
The city will have to submit a request to BC Hydro to confirm cost and which poles they will allow lights to be installed on.
It would be expected BC Hydro will take 60-90 days to provide a cost estimate after the city request is submitted.
Coun. Graham’s motion was approved by council.
