Council meets with minister over safety concerns

City of Cranbrook Mayor Wayne Price and councillors met with the Hon. Terry Yung, Minister of State for Community Safety and Integrated Services (and MLA for Vancouver-Yaletown) on Thursday, July 17.

The official visit in Cranbrook City Council Chambers was for a Community Safety Roundtable with members of council.

Council expressed concerns regarding property, crime, and drug offences, repeat offenders, mental health, and RCMP staffing levels.

The collaborative meeting with the Minister also led to discussion regarding potential pilot projects within the community and strategizing immediate and long-term solutions to those issues.

Mayor and Council will be connecting with Minster Yung again at the upcoming Union of BC Municipalities (UCBM) Conference in late September to continue this collaborative work and increase community safety in the city.
