Cranbrook graffiti vandal still at large
Cranbrook Downtown Business Association (DBA) President Joey Hoechsmann is continuing to raise the alarm about a serial ‘tagger’ who is littering city walls with graffiti.
In mid-July Hoechsmann offered a $1,000 reward for information on the identity of the vandal who has spread out city-wide.
“This is getting out of hand,” Hoechsmann said in a recent social media post.
“What started downtown has now spread across Cranbrook — with new graffiti appearing on rooftops, back alleys, the overpass, and business exteriors, including prominent buildings like the Days Inn.
“In his latest tags, he’s taunting the community with messages like “POST THIS” — showing just how bold he’s become. I’d bet he’s bragging about it to his friends.”
Hoechsmann added, from camera footage, we know this is a 15 to 18-year-old male with the agility to scale rooftops.
“This is criminal damage, not art — and it’s impacting local businesses.”
The DBA posted suggestions on what business owners/managers can do:
- Business owners — check your property and report new tags to the RCMP.
- Send Hoechsmann any photos of new graffiti — he is building a file to support the investigation.
- Review security footage, especially between 2–5 a.m., for suspicious activity.
- Recognize any tags or patterns (like “SEKO”)? DM Hoechsmann or contact Cranbrook RCMP.
- $1,000 reward still available for info leading to identification and arrest.
“Let’s shut this down before it spreads further. Please share this post — let’s protect our community and show this guy we’re not playing games,” Hoechsmann concluded.
