Cranbrook RCMP announce upcoming Cops for Kids events

This year’s Cops For Kids events have taken on a different look due to these uncertain times.

Along with the smaller Cops for Kids ride with riders taking on certain legs of the 1,000km ride, Cranbrook participants have come up with a few new ways to raise money and awareness for this great program.

On August 19, RCMP will participate in the ‘Great East Kootenay Bike Chase.’

RCMP members will “chase” three riders starting in Kimberley and make their way toward Cranbrook. RCMP will be chasing Staff Sergeant Kelly Hunter with the BC Sheriffs Service, Lisa Barnes, owner of Max’s and Steve Mercandelli of Cranbrook Dodge, as a way to bring awareness to Cops for Kids and the children we ride for.

“We really just want this to be a fun event to showcase our riders and to let the community know that we are still raising money for kids in the East Kootenay,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron with Cranbrook RCMP.

The chase starts at 10 a.m. from the lot behind the Wildstone Golf Course. From there the “culprits” will head to Wycliffe Park Road and back. Feel free to come and cheer on the “cops or robbers.”

On August 22 you will also find Lisa and Kelly high above the City of Cranbrook.

Both riders will be on a scissor lift in the parking lot of the Tamarack Centre raising money for children in our area. They have a goal of $1,000 and will only stop riding once they’ve raised that amount.

Sandor Rentals is graciously donating the scissor lift and Mr. Mike’s Steakhouse will be on hand to provide burgers by donation.
