Cranbrook RCMP Report
The following is a synopsis of calls received by Cranbrook RCMP for the week (from 6 a.m.) July 11 to 6 a.m., July 18.
The detachment received 153 calls for service throughout that period.
Among the calls police handled…
One impaired driving charge – 90 Day IRP issued to driver and 30 Day impound of vehicle.
Two collisions: One collision between two vehicles resulting in minor damage to both vehicles and no injuries. At the time of the collision there was a heavy thundershower in area, reducing visibility. And a collision between two vehicles at an intersection resulting in minor damage and minor injuries. One driver was issued a violation ticket for fail to yield after stop.
Two hit and run incidents: A pedestrian hit and run was reported to police but the complainant was not willing to provide further details in order to complete further investigation. And a hit and run resulting in damage to a fence and vehicle. Occupant of the vehicle was later identified when he returned to the scene and charged under the Motor Vehicle Act or Fail to Remain, Fail to Keep Right and Inadequate Tires. Alcohol believed to be a factor in the incident.
The Cranbrook RCMP continues to be on the lookout for impaired drivers this summer and urges the public to be vigilant in reporting suspected impaired drivers to police. The police often can intercept a suspicious vehicle within minutes of the report.
13 Mental Health Act calls; none apprehended.
Three assault complaints: A domestic assault was reported by a complainant advising he had been assaulted by his wife resulting in minor injuries. Female arrested and released with strict conditions on a Promise to Appear in Court. There were also two other minor assault complaints with no charges assessed.
15 Thefts reported: Four of these were shoplifting events, one was a theft of a bicycle, two thefts of vehicles, both were recovered. Three thefts from vehicle and five thefts under $5,000.
There has been an increase in thefts from construction sites of building materials and tools. Police advise construction companies to be vigilant in securing tools and building supplies when not in use.
One robbery – Males assaulted and threatened, cell phones and cash stolen. Two suspects arrested and the investigation is still ongoing with charges recommended to Crown.
Three reports of property damage: one mischief to door; one mischief to vehicle; one mischief to business window, possibly from a small rock, no entry gained to the business.
Six false alarms.
