Cranbrook RCMP Report

The following is a synopsis of calls received by Cranbrook RCMP for the week (from 6 a.m.) June 26 to 6 a.m., July 3.

Police handled 170 calls for service throughout this week.

Among the calls police handled…

One impaired driver.

Cranbrook RCMP, Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services and BC Ambulance attended a crash at the Victoria Avenue/Highway 95 junction at about 11:30 p.m. June 30.

10 collisions – three in town (persons charged in two of the incidents), five outside of town (four of five collisions involved wildlife). All collisions resulted in minor injury and/or damage to vehicles.

Three hit and runs: A trailer hitch clipped a parked vehicle when backing up; a pedestrian alleges he was struck by a vehicle but no injuries,; and a vehicle backed up and hit another parked vehicle (driver charged for fail to remain at scene).

Five Mental Health Act calls – none apprehended/ three assist East Kootenay Regional Hospital.

Five assault complaints: three domestic in nature where two of the investigations resulted in arrest and charges and two other incidents were minor in nature where the parties involved knew each other.

Eight thefts reported, including: three shoplifting; one stolen motor vehicle recovered in Salmo; and three thefts from motor vehicles. All the vehicles were unlocked; electronic cables and an ipod were stolen.

One report of bike theft from a yard: it was recovered by police fairly quickly and returned to the owner.

Two break and enters to residences: One B&E to an empty residence outside of town (squatter). One B&E in town to a residence where suspect(s) entered through an UNLOCKED door and stole two Bowtech Diamond bows.

One break and enter to other: A travel trailer was broken into but nothing was stolen.

Eight reports of property damage: various reports from vehicles, barbecues, businesses being vandalized.

Two drug seizures – marijuana and crystal meth.

13 false alarms/ false 911 complaints.
