On Jan. 18, Cranbrook RCMP received a report that an individual had been paid in counterfeit money while selling a phone through Marketplace. The seller met the buyer where they exchanged the phone for cash. The seller then attempted to deposit the $1,250 into their bank account and learned that only $30 of the cash was legitimate. Upon examining the money, it was noticed that all of the bills had the same serial number, some of the transparent windows on the bills were peeling and there were no tactile dots on the bills.
Our officers booked 30 individuals into Cranbrook cells including six individuals arrested on outstanding warrants and an additional seven individuals were remanded into custody after bail hearings.
In addition to calls for service officers were also out conducting curfew checks and proactive patrols which resulted in three Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRPs) being issued and two instances of charges being forwarded for curfew breaches.
A search warrant execution led to the arrest of two individuals who were remanded on numerous charges.
We were also so fortunate to participate is some fun community connection through our Books and Badges reading initiative in local elementary schools, safety and talks with middle school students and fraud prevention conversations with seniors.
