Calls of note included:

On November 26, Cranbrook RCMP members responded to a local restaurant after a male attended the business, reached across the counter and took the tablet that is used for Door Dash. Staff at the location described the individual and provided a still image from their surveillance cameras; after conducting patrols officers located a male matching the description.

The male who had turned his coat inside out in an attempt to disguise his appearance was arrested for theft and a subsequent search yielded the tablet. The male was transported to Cranbrook cells, theft charges forwarded and the tablet was returned to the restaurant.

On November 28, Cranbrook RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance where a male and female were yelling and screaming. Members quickly responded and found a group of friends playing Grand Theft Auto. All parties indicated that one of the friends had made a questionable play in the game losing fictional money which resulted in a loud but friendly uproar. Officers verified the story independently with all parties. Thankfully no disturbance, just some GTA enthusiasm!

This instance resulted in smiles all around but that is not always the case. We always would rather check out a situation and not miss something important so please don’t hesitate to call in suspicious occurrences.

On November 29, Cranbrook RCMP was dispatched to the scene of a multi car train derailment near Fenwick Road off Wardner Ft. Steele Rd. RCMP Remote Piloted Air Support (Drone) was engaged to assess the scene and officers worked with Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) staff, to secure the site, set up roadblocks, and issue evacuation orders for five properties due to a propane leak. Eventually scene control was turned over to CPKC Police to assume their investigation.

Our officers booked 27 individuals into Cranbrook cells including seven individuals arrested on outstanding warrants, one individual was held for impaired driving, three individuals were arrested on breach charges, three individuals were Sheriff transports for scheduled court appearances, two individuals were held for public intoxication and one individual was remanded into custody in Alberta.

In addition to calls for service officers were also out conducting radar enforcement in school zones, curfew checks and proactive patrols which resulted in one 24-hour Roadside Prohibition and two 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRPs) being issued.

We also had the pleasure of hosting multiple school tour groups at the detachment as well as participating in some great community events including the Cranbrook Bucks game and leading the Santa Claus Parade.
