Cranbrook RCMP shares 2025 annual report with council

In 2025, the Cranbrook RCMP Detachment responded to 8,651 reports to police, according to a presentation by Staff Sergeant Barry Graham on Monday to City of Cranbrook council.

There were 2,003 reports to police in the fourth quarter of 2025 and 1,879 calls for service. In the quarter, RCMP witnessed an increase in minor fraud, motor vehicle accidents and theft from vehicles as compared to the third quarter of 2025.

During the fourth quarter, Cranbrook RCMP made 54 reports to Crown Counsel, while 31 reports led to approved charges. Twenty curfew checks, 35 joint patrols with City of Cranbrook Bylaw Enforcement Officers, and 288 proactive patrols were also completed.

For the entire year, RCMP made 169 joint community patrols with Bylaw (a 60% increase from 2024), in addition to 618 proactive patrols and 115 curfew checks.

The RCMP had 12 official community events and initiated four new crime reduction programs including:

  • Project 529, an online bike registration system;
  • Make Your Mark, encouraging residents to engrave valuables for easier recovery;
  • Business Block Watch, a business-focused initiative to reduce commercial property crime; and
  • Fetch Your Property, a partnership with the BC SPCA East Kootenay that helps reunite recovered property with owners while promoting pet adoptions.

Overall, the Cranbrook RCMP report an increase in total assaults (301) in 2025, commercial break and enter (105), vehicle theft (64), bicycle theft (65), and motor vehicle accidents (457).

“2025 was another busy yet successful year. We continue to strive to adapt to evolving community needs by using a data-drive approach to ensure we are operating as efficiently and responsibly as we can while responding to crime trends,” said S/Sgt. Graham, Cranbrook RCMP Detachment commander.

“We have significantly increased our proactive policing efforts through proactive patrols, launched several new crime reduction measures like the Business Block Watch pilot and Project 529 to deter bike theft, and focused on building stronger partnerships. As we move into 2026, our focus remains on proactive policing, reducing property crime, increased transparency, and collaboration. We will continue to adapt, improve, and work closely with the community to support a safer future for everyone.”
