Cyclist injured in hit and run incident

Cranbrook RCMP is currently investigating after a cyclist was injured in a hit and run early this morning.

At approximately 6:30 a.m., Cranbrook RCMP was requested to attend to the intersection of 4th Street S and 7th Avenue S for a cyclist who had been hit by a motor vehicle.

Officers attended and located a 58-year old being tended to by emergency workers.

The man advised he had been travelling northbound on 7th Ave S when he was struck by a forest green coloured hatchback that allegedly failed to stop for the stop sign.  The vehicle then continued on down 7th Ave., without stopping to render aid to the cyclist.

“A canvass of the area for video was completed but RCMP are still searching for anyone who may have information about the collision,” said Cst. Katie Forgeron.  “If you are the driver of the vehicle, we ask that you come forward to speak with us about the incident.”

The cyclist received non-life threatening injuries and is now recuperating at home.  Anyone who has any information is asked to contact the Cranbrook office at 250-489-3471.
