Thirty-three years of bravery, dedication, and service. That’s the remarkable legacy of Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services’ Deputy Fire Chief Dan MacKinnon, who last week hung up his helmet for the final time after a storied career that spanned over three decades.
In October 1992, Dan began his journey as a firefighter, answering the call to serve and protect his community with courage and compassion. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, earning the respect and admiration of his peers and the public alike.

In 2007, Dan was promoted to Captain, leading his team with wisdom and expertise. Twelve years later, he achieved the esteemed position of Deputy Fire Chief, guiding the department with strategic vision and leadership.
Throughout his career, Dan faced countless challenges, from raging fires to complex emergencies. Yet, he remained steadfast, always putting the safety of others before his own. His selflessness, work ethic, and commitment to excellence inspired a generation of firefighters.
As Dan begins this new chapter, we celebrate his achievements and honour his service. His legacy will continue to inspire and motivate those who follow in his footsteps. Congratulations, Deputy Chief MacKinnon, on a job well done!
Your community will forever be grateful.
