Firefighters running hot during cold snap

Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services (CFES) this morning reports the cool snap has things ramped up in terms of calls.

A-Shift attended a structure fire Friday afternoon (Feb. 12) on Mission Crescent. Quick action from a local contractor had the fire extinguished on arrival. No injuries to report, Cranbrook firefighters noted on social media.

“Thanks to RCMP, BCAS, Fortis and BC Hydro for their quick response and assistance in this cold weather.”

While this incident was unfolding, fire department backup crews responded to a train versus car collision at the 3rd St NW crossing (pictured right). “Luckily there were only minor injuries,” firefighters said.

Then as the crew from the first fire cleared the scene, they were rerouted to a report of an alarm activation. The cause of the alarm was a broken sprinkler line from the cold, which crews helped to mitigate.

“As we moved into the night, D Shift had another busy night, responding to an RV fire on Kootenay Street and 4th St. N. One RV and a pickup were fully involved on arrival, with a second RV exposed to the flames. Thankfully the occupants both made it out safely. Investigators continue to look into the cause of the fire,” firefighters outlined.
