Flash mob event taking place Sept. 2
Locals will get a chance to see a city dance group perform West Coast Swing as part of an international flash mob event on September 2.
Check out the flash mob on September 2 at 2 p.m. at Cranbrook’s Tamarack Mall, in front of Shoppers Drug Mart. The dance takes about five minutes.

The International West Coast Swing (WCS) Flash Mob was started in 2014 as a way to promote WCS around the world. WCS is a partner dance with roots in Lindy Hop and is one of the few dances that allows for improvisation on the dance floor.
In 2016, 6,000 dancers in 264 cities and 39 countries took part, sometimes in large groups and twice on cruise ships. This year Cranbrook will be represented … along with Calgary, Montreal, and Paris.
The Cranbrook dancers work with Dance With Me Cranbrook, a local dance studio that teaches many varieties of ballroom, social, western and Latin dance, including WCS. The participants are all intermediate WCS dancers who have been working on this routine for about three months.
Dancing with Clare (who knows the men’s and women’s footwork to all of the dances she teaches) is Carol Spencer; Louis and Lorenza Saule, Joyce Green and Jim Johnson, Bob Deptuck and Adele Simpson, Karen, who teaches line dance at the Cranbrook Line Dance Club – see more; and Trevor Tripp, and Sandy MacArthur and Jean Caron complete the Cranbrook lineup.
Dance With Me Cranbrook opened its doors January 2013 and has been offering a wide variety of partner dances since. Clare and Gerry, the studio’s owners, have more than 40 years of dance experience between them in both Calgary and Cranbrook. Check out their website for more personal info.
