The Kootenay ICE and Cranbrook Dodge are hosting Food Drive Night on Saturday, November 25 during their 7 p.m. match against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The ICE will be accepting food and cash donations at the game with all donations going to the Cranbrook Food Bank. Those wanting to donate a non-perishable food item can drop it off in bins located in the mezzanine at Western Financial Place. Cash donations will be accepted as well.

Along with dropping off food items in the bins, the public will also have the opportunity to fill up the trunk space of the Dodge Caravan provided by Cranbrook Dodge, which will be located outside the arena.

“Cranbrook Dodge is very excited to partner with the Kootenay ICE to help those in need over the holidays,” said Steve Mercandelli, General Sales Manager with Cranbrook Dodge. “We value the importance the Cranbrook Food Bank has in this community and are happy to work with both the ICE and the food bank on this great initiative.”

The food and cash donations will be weighed and tallied after the game, communicated to the Kootenay ICE and posted on social media. The ICE and Cranbrook Dodge have set a goal of receiving 4,000 pounds of food.

Youth tickets are on sale for $5 – a 50% discount from regular priced youth tickets – for the game.

The Cranbrook Food Bank started in 1982 in response to the collapse in the local economy, with the organization run entirely by volunteers. The food bank gives out 405 hampers per month and helped over 1,800 families, 3,700 children and 9,900 people in 2016.

An average of 31,500 pounds of food is given out every month – which includes 3,900 pounds of produce.

This time of year is the busiest for the food bank, with the demand increasing higher as the holidays near. Lets help out those in need and make sure they have a comfortable holiday season.
