Fun Run in search of new leadership
After many years organizing the very successful Spring Honda Fun Run in Cranbrook, the organizers are actively seeking an individual or group to takeover this event.
“We have been so lucky with the tremendous support of our event, year after year, and we couldn’t be more proud of the funds we have been able to donate to the BC ALS Society,” said Rhiannon Chippett, event co-organizer. “What started off as a resurrection from the historical and very popular Cranbrook EK 10K event, which ran for many years out of the College of the Rockies campus, our group has committed since day one to hosting a fun, community run for both elite to beginner runners, walkers, children and toddlers, and gained much success over the years.”
The small group met back in late 2010 and held the first of many Fun Runs to come on May 15, 2011. By the next year, they attracted their title sponsor Spring Honda, with personal ties to family dealing with ALS, and wanted to lend their support to a community event and over the years have truly played a major role with the races’ success.
Seven years later, and well over $60,000 raised for the BC ALS Society, the team has now reached a point that they would like to pass the torch along, and see what interest they can find to work with someone to takeover the leadership role with the Spring Honda Fun Run.
“We are a small committee who organizes this event with the help of dozens of sponsors year after year, and with our own families and commitments it was time to breathe new life into our event, and we are looking for a special community-minded person to do just that!” said Chippett. “We are definitely willing to support, and aid anyone who is willing to take the lead, and encourage those interested to contact us as soon as possible so we can hopefully secure the Spring Honda Fun Run for 2018.”
The event which took on a colourful twist in 2016, saw a great outpouring of community excitement and jump in registration numbers, and it’s success like that, the team hopes with a new, energetic lead will only help this event grow, and raise even more for the BC ALS Society or a charity of the individuals choosing.
Anyone who is interested is asked to contact the organizers, at [email protected] or send a message through their Facebook group.
In closing, a big thank you to all participants – volunteers and everyone who supported us year after year! Thanks a million!
